RETAINER HELP

Broken or Lost Retainer in Surrey

A broken, lost or poorly fitting retainer should be addressed before significant unwanted tooth movement has time to occur.

If the retainer breaks

Do not continue wearing a retainer with sharp or distorted edges if it causes injury or does not seat normally. Keep the pieces and contact the orthodontic office.

If the retainer is lost

Contact the office rather than waiting for obvious tooth movement. Replacement timing matters because teeth can begin shifting before the change is easy to see.

If it feels tight

A retainer that suddenly feels tighter can indicate tooth movement or a change in the retainer itself. Forcing a retainer that will not seat properly can be inappropriate; ask the office for advice.

Preventing repeat problems

Store removable retainers in their case, keep them away from heat and pets, and follow the cleaning instructions provided. Retainers are durable but not permanent appliances.
